What the NDIS Does (and Doesn’t) Fund — And How We Can Help
If you’ve recently looked through the updated NDIS support lists, you’ll know just how detailed and complex they are. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has outlined very clearly what it will and won’t fund — and understanding the difference can make all the difference in how you plan and manage your supports.
There are 37 categories of funded supports under the NDIS. These include everything from daily personal activities, home modifications, assistive technology, and transport assistance, to support coordination, specialist disability accommodation, and therapy-based supports like physiotherapy or psychology. These are considered “reasonable and necessary” supports that directly relate to a participant’s disability and help them pursue their goals.
However, there are also many items that the NDIS won’t cover. These fall under 15+ categories including day-to-day living costs (like rent, food, electricity), personal lifestyle expenses (like fitness memberships, cosmetics, or holidays), and non-evidence-based therapies (like crystal healing or reiki). The NDIS also won’t cover items that are already funded by mainstream services, like school fees or general health care.
At KD Plan Management, we know navigating these lists can be overwhelming. Whether you're unsure if a support is fundable, need help interpreting a new plan, or just want someone to guide you through budget categories — we're here to support you.
